Semmes Hughs has been in the life insurance and financial services business for 41 years. He grew up in the New Orleans area and started in the business the day after he graduated from Tulane University. He started his career as an agent with the Friedler LaRocca agency with Home Life Insurance Company. He immediately qualified for the Million Dollar Round Table and was the Outstanding New Rookie of the Year for his agency.
He has held a wholesaling focus in his career as well as a retail practice, representing companies such as Manulife Financial, Sun Life, Lincoln Benefit, and Penn Mutual. He started as a Senior Managing Director with The Consortium in 2020, where he produces his own business as well as helping other agents and advisors grow their business.
He’s qualified for Ameritas’s Leaders Club every year and although he represents several companies, considers Ameritas his primary company. He is an active member of NAIFA and was a past president of the New Orleans chapter of the Society of Financial Service Professionals. Semmes also is active in several community activities, as a past Distinguished president of the Kiwanis Club of New Orleans, United Way of New Orleans, Archbishop’s Community Appeal, and other community service organizations.
Besides this, Semmes is also very active in several Mardi Gras Carnival organizations. He lives in Madisonville Louisiana, and loves spending time with his family! He’s been married to Julie for 35 years and is very proud of his children Elizabeth (son-in-law Stephen) , Catherine, Tommy, and grandchildren Lucy and Stephen, Jr.
